The Turkish Football Federation has decided to suspend all its championships until further notice in response to the assault on referee Halil Umut Meler.

Meler was violently attacked by the president of Ankaragücü and assaulted on the ground by players from the same club after the conclusion of the match against Rizespor (1-1).

“Today, this heinous attack was not directed solely against Halil Umut Meler. Today, this inhumane and heinous attack was launched against all participants in Turkish football. In coordination with our state, all the criminal procedures that these actions deserve have begun to be implemented.”

“The responsible club, the club president, its leaders, and all the criminals who attacked Halil Umut Meler will be punished in the most severe manner,” warns the Turkish federation in a statement.
