Liverpool is bidding farewell to two thirty-somethings: Joël Matip and Thiago Alcantara.

It’s a new era at Liverpool. Following the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure, the Reds have announced the end for central defender Joël Matip (32 years old). With his contract expiring, the Cameroonian player, who has played 201 matches for the Reds, is moving on.

He leaves with an impressive trophy cabinet: a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup, a Premier League, two League Cups, an FA Cup, and a Community Shield.

Following Matip’s departure, Liverpool also confirmed the exit of midfielder Thiago Alcantara (33 years old). Often sidelined due to injuries since April 2023, Thiago leaves the Reds after four seasons, during which he played 98 matches and added two League Cups, an FA Cup, and a Community Shield to his collection.
