Kylian Mbappé has spent over half a million euros on a painting of Pelé, but it’s all for a good cause.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé purchased a painting of football legend Pelé for €520,000. The artwork, titled “O REI” (The King in Portuguese), measures 200×150 cm and was painted in 2023 by contemporary artist Alexandre Hopare, a 35-year-old from Limours, a suburb of Essonne (91).

The auction took place at the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation’s gala, PARIS FOR GOOD, held on Thursday night at Place Vendôme.

Starting at a base price of €5,000, the auction saw intense competition, eventually narrowing down to Mbappé and his friend Achraf Hakimi. Mbappé ultimately secured the painting for €520,000, setting a record for the charity evening. The event raised a total of €2.7 million, all of which will be donated to charitable causes.
