Lionel Messi back at Barcelona? Inter Miami failed to qualify for the MLS playoffs.

According to reports from the Catalan press, particularly the newspaper Sport, a return of Lionel Messi to Europe is not out of the question. Similar to Zlatan Ibrahimovic or David Beckham at Milan, the MLS opens the door to a possible loan of the Argentine forward to FC Barcelona, starting in January for six months.

The condition is that Inter Miami does not reach the MLS playoffs. And it’s official, Beckham’s club failed to qualify. Lionel Messi will not play in the MLS between October 21 (the end of the 2023 season) and late February 2024 (the new season).

This extended timeframe may pave the way for a possible return to Barcelona. Messi is under contract with Inter Miami until December 2025. Nothing is certain, but the door is open for speculation.
