“Is it true what they say about Cristiano Ronaldo calling you Varane and you responding ‘I’m Rapha’?” asks Olivier Dacourt. “Yes, it’s true. I think on the field, there’s no room for timidity. I’m quite reserved off the pitch, but on the field, you have to carve out your place and earn respect,” responds the World Cup champion.
Varane then discusses the thrill of the Champions League. “The Champions League is an adrenaline rush, it’s the big games, it’s the ultimate challenge. You’re put to the test, meaning your season is either successful or it isn’t. It’s a do-or-die match. You either advance or you’re out.”
